This Ranch style house built in 1958 is located in a quiet residential neighborhood in Richmond California. The site has a large backyard anchored by dense tall greenery as a pleasant surprise that one cannot see from the street.

Koami Architecture was brought in from the concept stage to completely renovate the house for the nature-loving clients' permanent home, in collaboration with Studio H2 Landscape Architecture.

By opening up an unused area and introducing a partial sloped ceiling geometry, a refreshing and sunny space was redefined for a new indoor/outdoor life style, tied with natural & clean materials. New landscaping, outdoor cooking area and a hinoki deep soaker hottub with a lush garden behind to be illuminated by carefully selected landscaping lighting for a private outdoor sanctuary in any time of the day. Newly added ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) will be used as the owner's future creative work studio.
