Residential renovation & addition

The existing house is a single family home, sitting on a steep hill near Twin Peaks in San Francisco.

As part of the development during in 1950’s, Midtown Terrace, the street features mid century developer-modern style homes arranged in rows.

Typical typology of this particular street is of the building volume elevated by a large concrete column from the ground, creating a void space underneath the main residence.

We have converted this unused blighted void space into a bright and cheerful family room. The wood screen allows natural light while providing needed privacy from the street, complimented by the skylight above the new staircase to wash the wall surface, introducing the extra sense of verticality to the new space.
