In the heart of lively downtown Oakland community for small businesses and entrepreneurs, this two story building had gone through full transformation by the owners with modern material palette; exposed concrete, steel beams and exposed wood ceiling, together with skylight, create understated & sophisticate work space with ample natural light to highlight the raw materials' beauty.

Koami Architecture was brought to redesign the lobby to create more defined & welcoming feel. A counter seating area for a quick "touch down" business meetings and shared private lounge areas, taken from airport lounge precedents.

While respecting the owner's aesthetic goal, build outs in the rear part of the building were carefully designed to provide more private spaces with sound attenuation, a challenge in the double-height ceiling open atrium space.
