This remodel is for a family’s residence in a historical Edwardian two-unit building.
Typical of this building style is the narrow, deep hallway with series of compartmentalized rooms.
The design idea is to open up the kitchen toward the dining room, to create a central public space that is a hub of the family’s communication.
To mitigate the lack of natural light, the existing ceiling also has been opened up to utilize the space underneath the pitched roof, and north-facing skylights are installed to bring in more brightness, which makes this space as a focal point from the entry of the house.
